(Jan
2007) Muslims urged to refuse 'un-Islamic' vaccinations
A leading Islamic doctor is urging British Muslims not to
vaccinate their children against diseases such as measles,
mumps, and rubella because they contain substances
making them unlawful for Muslims to take.
Dr Abdul Majid Katme, head of the Islamic Medical
Association, says almost all vaccines contain un-Islamic
"haram" derivatives of animal or human tissue, and that
Muslim parents are better off letting childrens' immune
systems develop on their own.

(Jan 2007) WHY DID OUR BABY DIE?
A Heartbroken couple want to know why their baby died.An
inquest found Dan Curtis and Carrie Hick's two-month-old
daughter Charlotte died of cot death.
A pathologist said the only known risk factor was the fact that
her parents and grandfather, who lived with them, were all
smokers.
But the family from Down Ampney deny ever smoking in front
of Charlotte or their other daughters, Josie, three, and Sophia, two.
They say vaccinations given to the baby the week before she died
could be responsible.
Charlotte, who was born on May 13 last year, had a combined jab
for diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio, along with Hib
meningitis and meningitis C vaccinations.
Carrie, 22, said: "Viral meningitis showed on Charlotte's autopsy
but the final results came through as cot death.
"We're wondering if the vaccinations caused her death. She had
them on Tuesday and she died the following Monday.

(Feb 2007) HPV Vaccine: Betting on a Mercky Record
“The safety of new agents cannot be known with certainty until a
drug has been on the market for years,” according to a 2002
study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
“Serious ADRs [adverse drug reactions] commonly emerge after
Food and Drug Administration approval.” Reacting to outrage over
Vioxx and other drug safety debacles, the FDA announced on
Jan. 30 that it will eventually require comprehensive safety reviews
of new drugs 18 months after their introduction.
For now, assurances of efficacy and safety are only as good as the
data on which they are based. While more than 20,000 women
between ages 16 and 26 took part in trials, the sample of 9- to 15-
year-old girls was small — only 1,184. And since no participants
have been followed for more than five years, long-term effects
remain unknown.
“The published data looks great, but at the very least, I would like to
see efficacy data among 11- and 12-year-olds, which won’t emerge
until they are sexually active,” says Karen Smith-McCune, a
professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California,
San Francisco.

(Feb 2007) Aluminum adjuvant linked to Gulf War illness induces
motor neuron death in mice.
Gulf War illness (GWI) affects a significant percentage of veterans of
the 1991 conflict, but its origin remains unknown. Associated with
some cases of GWI are increased incidences of amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis and other neurological disorders. Whereas many
environmental factors have been linked to GWI, the role of the anthrax
vaccine has come under increasing scrutiny. Among the vaccine's
potentially toxic components are the adjuvants aluminum hydroxide
and squalene. To examine whether these compounds might contribute
to neuronal deficits associated with GWI, an animal model for
examining the potential neurological impact of aluminum hydroxide,
squalene, or aluminum hydroxide combined with squalene was developed.
Young, male colony CD-1 mice were injected with the adjuvants at doses
equivalent to those given to US military service personnel. All mice
were
subjected to a battery of motor and cognitive-behavioral tests over a
6-mo
period postinjections. Following sacrifice, central nervous system
tissues
were examined using immunohistochemistry for evidence of inflammation
and cell death. Behavioral testing showed motor deficits in the aluminum
treatment group that expressed as a progressive decrease in strength
measured by the wire-mesh hang test (final deficit at 24 wk; about 50%).

(Feb 2007) Merck drops campaign to push cancer vaccine
Merck & Co., bowing to pressure from parents and medical groups, is
immediately suspending its lobbying campaign to persuade state
legislatures to mandate that adolescent girls get the company's new
vaccine against cervical cancer as a requirement for school attendance.
The drugmaker, which announced the change Tuesday, had been
criticized for quietly funding the campaign, via a third party, to
require

(Feb 2007) Bowel problem seen in infants given Merck vaccine
The Food and Drug Administration said on Tuesday it was notifying
health-care providers and consumers about reports of some 28 cases
of infants suffering a serious bowel condition after receiving Merck
&
Co's new vaccine against the rotavirus.
The FDA said it was not immediately clear how many of the cases
were caused by the vaccine. It said the condition, known as
intussusception, can occur in the absence of vaccination.
About 3.5 million doses of Merck's RotaTeq have been distributed in
the United States since its approval in February 2006, the FDA said.
The agency said the 28 reported cases do not exceed the number
that might be expected, but it issued the warning to encourage
reports of any additional cases.

(March 2007) Patient warning on flu drug risks (Anti-vrial - not
vaccine)
Medicines regulators say the antiviral Tamiflu must carry extra
warnings for patients following reports of possible side effects,
including suicide.
The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) said patients and doctors
should look out for rare but serious potential reactions like abnormal
behaviour.
The EMEA said it would closely monitor any emerging safety data on
the drug.
Tamiflu is the main weapon against a flu pandemic and is being
stockpiled by governments including the UK's.
The Japanese health ministry says it had received 22 reports of
abnormal behaviour among users of Tamiflu since 2004, including
four deaths.
Two of the deceased were teenagers who had displayed abnormal
behaviour before their deaths.

(March 2007) Vaccine officials knew about MMR risks
Government officials were made aware of some problems with a
version of the MMR vaccine in other countries but still introduced it in
Britain in the late 1980s, newly released documents show.
The MMR vaccine with the Urabe strain of mumps was first used in
Britain in October 1988. It was blamed for the deaths of several
children after being withdrawn by the Department of Health in
September 1992.
Previously confidential documents released under the Freedom of
Information Act show how officials gradually learned of the dangers
of the Urabe strain MMR which caused encephalitis-type conditions,
including meningitis. Involving swelling of the brain or of the lining
of
the brain or spinal chord, they can lead to brain damage, deafness
or even death.
The papers show that many months before the Urabe MMR vaccine
was introduced in the UK, officials were made aware of problems in
America, Sweden and Canada.

(May 2007) What killed Sally Clark’s child?
Neville Hodgkinson asks why the jury in the Sally Clark trial was told
to discount the DTP jab given to her second child, Harry, just five
hours before he was found dead
Sally Clark spent three and a half years in jail wrongly convicted of
murdering two of her babies after a jury was assured there was no
other explanation for their sudden deaths than that she had
deliberately smothered them. Yet five hours before her second child,
Harry, was found lifeless in his baby chair, he had been injected with
a combined vaccine with a long history of serious adverse reactions.
Harry was eight weeks old, the regulation age for the first of three
injections against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTP) and Hib
(a bacterial infection that can cause meningitis). He was also given an
oral polio vaccine. His biological age was five weeks, as he had been
born three weeks premature. Because of the previous sudden death of
his brother, Christopher, his breathing was being monitored. He was
uncharacteristically dozy from the time of his jabs to the time he died.

(June 2007) NZ Health Department fails to warn women
The official documents show that one female patient “died of a blood
clot three hours after receiving the Gardasil vaccine” and that two
other girls aged 12 and 19 died from heart problems and/or blood
clotting.
The documents also show that of the 42 women who received the
vaccine while pregnant, 18 experienced side effects ranging from
spontaneous abortion to foetal abnormities.
On top of this the documents also show other serious side effects
like paralysis, Bells Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and seizures
were reported in women who have received the Gardasil vaccine.
“It is completely egregious that New Zealand women are not being
warned about these serious side-effects, especially when one
considers the very public way this drug was first promoted in New
Zealand” says Family Life International media spokesperson Brendan
Malone.
“Women were told that Gardasil was the answer to Cervical Cancer,
and parents were encouraged to have their teenage daughters
vaccinated with this drug. Yet not only is Gardasil a completely
unproven drug whose long-term effects are not actually known, but
these new FDA records clearly show that it poses serious risks to
the health of women.”

(June 2007) New Concerns over HPV Vaccine
Unless you've been practicing strict media abstinence over the past
six months, you've probably heard that a sexually transmitted virus
called HPV (human papilloma virus) causes some cancers, including
cervical cancers. And that a pharmaceutical giant, Merck, rolled out
an HPV vaccine called Gardasil last summer to immunize against
some strains of the virus.
But is that HPV vaccine actually safe and effective for curbing cervical
cancers? Some policy-makers and some medical specialists say,
"Yes." Other doctors, cancer researchers and the mother of a
14-year-old paralyzed after receiving an HPV vaccination say, "No."
But despite the disagreement in the medical communities, Canada
has given the vaccine a green light for use on girls as young as nine.

(June 2007) SEX VIRUS VACCINE LINKED TO THREE DEATHS
THREE deaths have been linked to the controversial sex virus jab health
officials want to give to all 12-year-old girls.
Doctors suspect the jab, which protects against a sexually transmitted
human papilloma virus that causes cervical cancer, may also be linked
to 1,700 “adverse reactions”.
Reports from the US, where the Gardasil vaccine has been used for
nearly a year in some states, reveal that three
victims died soon after receiving the injection. They were aged 12, 19
and 20.
They seem to have suffered blood clots or heart attacks. Hundreds of
others suffered what could be adverse side effects, including paralysis,
seizures and miscarriages.
The news comes just days after the Department of Health announced
the drug would be added to the childhood immunisation programme from
autumn 2008.
The findings have alarmed UK health experts. Jackie Fletcher from the
vaccine damage support group Jabs, said: “Trials of this jab have mostly
been on adults, so we don’t have any idea of the long-term effect on
children.” Dr Peter Mansfield, a former GP who runs the Good
HealthKeeping clinic in Lincolnshire, said: “It’s absolutely wrong that
girls of 12 should be given this jab.”
Dr John Oakley, a west Midlands GP said the trials for Gardasil had
been so limited that the children taking it would be like “guinea
pigs”.

Parents rally in support of doctor facing misconduct charge over
MMR-autism link
PARENTS of autistic children are planning a demonstration in support
of the doctor at the centre of the MMR controversy, when he is
summoned for a disciplinary hearing next month.
The Sunday Herald has learned that Dr Andrew Wakefield - who first
suggested a link between the triple jab for mumps, measles and rubella,
and autism and bowel disease - is due to appear before the General
Medical Council (GMC) on July 16.
His research, published in 1998, led to widespread public fears about
the
safety of the vaccine and triggered a decline in MMR immunisation levels
across the UK. Prime minister Tony Blair was even drawn into the row
after consistently refusing to reveal whether his son Leo, now seven,
received the jab.
Wakefield, who is now working in America, has faced widespread
criticisms over the claims, with subsequent studies failing to confirm
the
link. In late 2004, the GMC launched an inquiry into allegations of
serious professional misconduct against him and two former colleagues.
But parents who believe their children's autism has been triggered by
the vaccine are planning to show their support for the doctor outside
next month's disciplinary hearing in London.

(July 2007) Chinese parents take 'bad vaccines' case to court
Three children who suffered severe brain damage after being vaccinated
against Japanese encephalitis have had their case heard in a Chinese
court, casting the spotlight once again on the safety of China's drugs
and food.
Ordinary citizens suing powerful state companies are rare in China and
this case is especially sensitive as it calls into question the
standards
and safety of Chinese medicines.
"Our chances of winning are zero because our opponents are mighty,
but we won't back down," said Yu Tongan, father of one of the three.
"As victims we have to stand up not only for ourselves but to tell the
world such things are happening to us and many, many other children."

(Aug 2007) Is your child just a human guinea pig?
CHILDREN given vaccines are being used as guinea pigs by the
Government, claims a doctor.
Parents naturally want to make sure their children are vaccinated
against illness, but a new book begs the question whether it is
worth the risk at all.
Dr Richard Halvorsen, a GP who spent five years researching the
topic, claims the Government has misled the public in The Truth
About Vaccines.
He claims UK children are being used as "guinea pigs" and given
unnecessary jabs for illnesses such as mumps, and an ineffective
vaccine for whooping cough.
Worcestershire Primary Care Trust has derided the findings of the
book but it has earned the cautious backing of experts in Worcester,
including Debbie Ryding - founder of the Desumo Clinic which
provides single measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations.
Mother-of-seven Mrs Ryding founded the private clinic in St John's,
Worcester, after her son Michael, now aged eight, developed eating
and behavioural problems which she attributes to the combined
vaccinations he was given against whooping cough, tetanus and
diphtheria as an eight- week-old baby. Mrs Ryding said she was in
broad agreement with the remarks made by the doctor - although
thought the timing of the publication was bad.

(Aug 2007) Complications Arise From HPV Vaccine
As of May 31, 2007, there have been 13 cases of Guillain Barré
syndrome (GBS) in association with the HPV vaccine (Gardasil)
reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).
Guillain-Barre syndrome is a serious disorder that occurs when the
body’s defense (immune) system mistakenly attacks part of the
nervous system. This leads to nerve inflammation which continues
to get worse.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that
six of the patients had received Gardasil alone, and six had also
received meningococcal vaccine (Menactra). Since the end of May,
an additional two cases have been reported.

(Sep 2007) Chickenpox vaccine scare
Chickenpox vaccines for children could be dangerous later in
life,
says James Le Fanu
Samuel Johnson, writing his dictionary in the mid-18th century when
death in infancy was commonplace, noted that chickenpox was "of
no very great danger".
Quite so, which makes it unclear why the Department of Health, as
reported last week, should wish to add it to the ever-lengthening roster
of childhood immunisations.
It is suggested that chickenpox will be combined with the controversial
MMR as a four-in-one vaccine - the aim being to avoid turning a baby
into a pincushion by combining vaccinations into a single jab -
alongside
the five-in-one against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio and
influenza.
Some might rightly wonder about the wisdom of such a policy, but the
verdict on the proposed chickenpox vaccine is clear enough. It will be
an
unequivocal disaster, for the following reasons.
While chickenpox may be "of no very great danger" to the young, it can
be
much more virulent in adults, infiltrating the lungs or the brain to
cause
around 25 fatal cases a year.
Now, an attack of chickenpox confers lifelong immunity, but the effects
of the vaccination begin to wane after about 20 years.

(Oct 2007) EIGHT DEATHS LINKED TO LABOUR’S NEW SEX JAB FOR SCHOOLGIRLS
EIGHT deaths have been linked to the cervical cancer jab which will
be given to every 12-year-old girl in Britain under Government plans
announced last week.
Doctors suspect the jab, which protects against a sexually transmitted
human papilloma virus that causes the cancer, may be implicated in
3,461 adverse reactions, including paralysis and seizures.
Last week Health Secretary Alan Johnson revealed plans to vaccinate
all girls aged between 12 and 13 to cut Britain’s death rate from the
disease. He said: “Prevention is better than cure and this vaccine will
prevent many women from catching the virus in the first place.”
However, reports from the US, where the Gardasil vaccine has been
used for nearly a year in some states, reveal that eight victims died
soon after receiving it. The victims, aged from as young as 11 to 22,
suffered blood clots or heart attacks.
Thousands of side effects have also been linked, many serious. These
include 15 cases of paralysis and 239 cases of temporary loss of
consciousness. Other suspected reactions include convulsions and
numbness.
In one case Jessica Vega, 14, from Gardnerville, California, became
paralysed from the knees down after a booster shot of Gardasil in May.

(Nov 2007) They want to put more vaccines into our children. Just say
'no'
THERE is much talk about the apparent need for introducing chickenpox
vaccination for all in the UK. Many media reports mention how good it
would be if the hepatitis B vaccination was also given to babies, adding
to a growing number of childhood vaccines.
This push is no surprise - no self-respecting pharmaceutical company
is going to develop a vaccine and not try to sell it as a universal
panacea.
Indeed, vaccines are the golden goose for such companies.

(Dec 2007) Canada halts use of mumps vaccine, launches probe
Canada suspended use of three batches of a mumps vaccine on
Wednesday after five people fell ill in the midst of a vaccination
campaign in the western province of Alberta.
Health Canada advised against the use of the three lots of measles,
mumps and rubella vaccine sold by MerckFrosst Canada, while it
investigates five suspected cases of anaphylaxis, a potentially life-
threatening allergic reaction characterized by swelling and difficulty
breathing.
All five cases involved adults aged 20 to 30 in Alberta who had a
previous history of allergy. All have fully recovered.
Canadian officials are now trying to determine if the vaccine may
be having the same adverse reaction elsewhere.
